- The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson – A documentary exploring the life of Marsha P. Johnson who was a historic figure in the LGBTQ+ community (Netflix)
- Boy Erased – Starring Nicole Kidman & Russel Crowe, it tells the story of a young man who is sent to conversion therapy by his Christian parents. (Netflix)
- It’s A Sin – Russel T Davies’ heartbreaking drama of a group of gay men and their friends in London battling the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s. (Channel 4)
- RuPaul’s Drag Race – Reality competition series to find the world’s next drag superstar (US series on Netflix, UK series on BBC 3)
- Queer Eye – Team of gay professionals (the “Fab 5”) giving lifestyle and fashion makeovers to guests. (Netflix)
Books
- Queer Intentions (Amelia Abraham) – Asking the questions many of us are not willing to delve into, Amelia Abraham looks at the broader question of what it means to be queer right now.
- Patsy (Nicole Dennis-Benn) – A novel exploring the story of a woman and her two daughters fighting for survival in their drought-stricken Jamaican town – a powerful look at issues like poverty, colorism & homophobia.
- And the Band Played On: Politics, People & the Aids Epidemic (Randy Shilts) – A modern classic – Shilts’ exposé revealed why AIDS was allowed to spread unchecked during the early 80s while most trusted institutions ignored or denied the threat.
- Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches (Audre Sister) – A collection of essays and speeches drawn from experience of the black lesbian poet and feminist writer Audre Sister.
